Crocodile Cove

Darwin isn’t shy about its wildlife. One minute you’re getting a flat white, next minute you’re face to face with a giant saltwater crocodile in a glass tank. Welcome to Crocosaurus Cove, the Northern Territory’s most famous wildlife park and home to the largest display of Australian reptiles. Right in the city centre, Crocosaurus Cove is an authentic wildlife experience with all the croc encounters you could want — without having to go to the wild rivers of Adelaide River, Mary River or even Western Australia. It’s the ultimate urban wildlife experience, but as wild as it gets. I’ll show you around — with my usual no-fuss, boots-on-the-ground honesty.

A Croc Encounter in the Heart of Darwin

First up, Crocosaurus Cove is not just “a crocodile park”. It’s the Northern Territory’s premier croc encounter, for visitors who want more than just a peek from behind a fence. Located on Mitchell Street in Darwin CBD, this is equal parts thrill ride, wildlife park and education centre.
It has some of Australia’s largest saltwater crocodiles, affectionately known as ‘salties’, freshwater crocs, barramundi, turtles, reptiles and a ripper of a reptile house.
It’s the only place where you can get in the water (safely) with a 5-metre apex predator. Let that sink in.

Experience the thrill of a lifetime on a Darwin jumping crocodile tour! Get up close and personal with these ancient predators in their natural habitat.

  • You’ll be submerged in the croc’s domain.
  • 15 minutes of extreme thrill.
  • Crocs up close, jaws snapping just millimetres from your nose.
  • For adrenaline junkies and anyone who wants a crocodile swimming experience.

And yes, you’ll want your mobile device ready for that selfie.

This interactive reptile and fish encounter gives a glimpse into the aquatic life of the Northern Territory’s rivers and billabongs.

Baby Crocodiles & Juvenile Croc Encounters

For a cuteness overload don’t miss the baby saltwater crocodile encounters. You can even hold a juvenile croc for that perfect holiday snap. During hatching season, guests may witness hatching baby crocodiles, adding a special touch to your visit.
It’s a chance for the kids to learn about these prehistoric creatures under the watchful eye of our trained staff.
To see baby crocodile scales and webbed feet, hold them and connect with these prehistoric creatures for a bit.

For reptile enthusiasts. One of the largest reptile displays in Australia with venomous snakes to gentle geckos.

Turtle Billabong

Upstairs you will find our Billabong Turtle Hatchery. Meet some of the Top End’s cutest residents. Red and yellow bellied, snapping and nose turtles are found in the Top End’s river systems.

Crocodile Feeding Experiences

Join one of the three daily shows at the crocodile fishing platform where around 100 kids compete for food. As you drop a stick of meat towards the crocodiles, throw each claw over your scaly mates to get a good position to attack. Crocodile biologists will be on hand with talks.

Tickets, Prices & Getting In

  • Crocosaurus Cove General Admission Tickets: ~AUD 40-45 per adult.
  • Kids, family and group deals available.
  • Admissions on arrival or pre-book online.
  • Gift voucher field for that weird gift.

Best Time to Visit (Timing is Everything)

The crocs don’t take holidays but visiting during Darwin’s dry season (May to October) will make for a more comfortable visit. You’ll avoid cyclone risk and the crocs are more active in the cooler mornings. If you’re planning multiple NT adventures, combine your visit with a crocodile cruise on the Adelaide or Mary River for the ultimate wildlife experience.
